One day,
the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country
with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
어느날, 굉장한 부자집 아버지가 가난한 사람들이 어찌 사는가를 보여주려고
어린 아들을 데리고 시골로 갔다.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm
of what would be considered a very poor family.
**** 아버지와 아들은 가난체험 여행으로 불편을 각오하고 찢어지게 가난한사람의 농장으로가서 2~3일을 그들과 함께 생활하며 지내 보았다

on their return from their trip, the father asked his son,
'How was the trip?'
'It was great, Dad.'
여행을 끝내고 안락한 자신들의 집으로 돌아오면서 아버지가 아들에게 물었다.
"어때- 재미있었냐?"
"아주 좋았어요, 아빠!"
'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked.
'Oh yeah,' said the son.
'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father.
"그래, 가난한 사람이 어떻게 사는지 보았으니 이젠 잘 알겠지? 돈없고 지위없고 등 기댈곳 없으면 얼마나 힘든 세상인지" 알겠지?
"예, 아빠!"
아버지가 묻기를, "그래, 그럼 한번 말해 보겠니 . . 무얼 보고 어떻게 느꼈는지 ?"
The son answered....
아들이 대답 하기를....
I saw that we have one dog and they had five - .
"우린 개가 한 마리 뿐인데, 그 사람들은 다섯 마리더라고요."
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden
and they have a creek that has no end.
"우린 수영장을 마당에 파놓았는데 그 사람들은 끝없는 개울이 쫙 수영장이더라고요."
We have import!!!!ed lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
"우리 정원에는 수입 전등을 쓰는데, 그 사람들은 밤에 총총한 별빛이 밝더라고요.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
"우리 패티오는 앞마당으로만 있는데 그 사람들은 앞뒤 지평선이 끝이 없더라고요. "
We have a half Acre of land to live on
and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
"우리집은 반에이커 땅 안에서 사는데 그 사람들은 집터가 한이 없더라고요."
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
"우린 하인이 우리를 도와 주는데, 그 사람들은 자신들이 직접 남을 도와 주더라고요."
We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
"우린 음식재료를 사다가 먹는데 그 사람들은 직접 길러 먹더라고요."
We have walls around our property to protect us,
and they have friends to protect them.'
"우리 집은 담장으로 둘려 싸여 있는데 그 사람들은 친구들에게 싸여 있더라고요."
The boy's father was speechless.
아버지는 놀랍고 충격이 되어 망연자실(茫然 自失) 할 수 밖에 없었다.
Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."
아들은 마지막으로 쐐기를 하나 더 박았다.
"아빠, 고마워, 우리가 얼마나 가난한가를 알게 해주어서"
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing?
Makes you wonder what would happen
if we all gave thanks for everything we have,
instead of worrying about what we don't have.
